Tim Vagg

The Boxer Rebellion

Through his rich and meticulously crafted paintings, Tim Vagg’s latest exhibition The Boxer Rebellion explores conflicting mythologies behind the kitsch nationalistic imagery of white male-Anglo Australia. By feminizing the image of 'the wounded male' the artist critiques notions of Australian masculinity and the exploitation of mythologies such as 'the little Aussie battler.'

The Boxer Rebellion follows the sold-out successes of the artists' previous solo exhibitions The Boxer Paintings [2011], John West is Dead [2010], Heroes Drunks and Bounders - Forgotten Tales of Melbourne [2009], and is the 9th solo show with Kick Gallery. Aligned with Kick Gallery celebrating its tenth year this exhibition sees time come full circle with Vagg's work featuring in the very first exhibition at Kick Gallery a decade ago.
